I do believe that Christopher L. Doyle has a great deal of valid points. I also totally agree with him. As our parents tell us stories of their childhood, we already know that things are totally different. He says that "When we were in elementary school, we got on our bicycles on summer mornings and came back home at dinnertime. In middle and high school, I never felt too burdened by homework to read extensively for pleasure, and I played two varsity sports. I applied to two colleges and paid my own way through the state school that accepted me (Doyle". In today's society, this is not how it is. Because of the way crime has risen, and how poverty has struck many Americans, has caused many things to change in our society. It is no longer safe for children to be gone from sunrise to sunset. Children are being taken from their homes, never mind if they were out by themselves.
Children are no longer able to have a childhood. As Doyle tells us that children are being "overworked, overregulated, and overstressed (Doyle)". I would greatly agree. More and more children are being forced into working at their parents business from a very age. Also, More and more families are having a harder time meetings the basic standards of living, because of this, children are being forced to also have jobs to help provide for their families. The economy is not the only reason children's lives are being booked. Because our forefathers wanted better for us, along with our parents and grandparents, most children are being taught that they are going to graduate high school, go to college, and have this perfect life afterwards. This however, does not always happen and should not be forced upon every child.
Every child is their person. They each have their own destiny, dreams, and desires. A child should be able to make this decisions for themselves. No person's life should be scripted, but rather given guidance. Do not force a child to go to a school they do not like, go into a profession they are unhappy with, or live a life they do not want. But rather, give them the guidance to have the strength to go find this for themselves.
