Many colleges are known today for being known for their athethics and not for their acdemics. Colleges will often give special treatment to their student athletes. For example, Alabama Crimson'tide is a college that focuses around football. They will very often "help" their student athetics to pass a class and just move through their acdemics. When an athlete is falling behind in their school work, and starts to fall a class, the coach will go speak to the teacher and ask the teacher to basically change the grade and let the student pass. Colleges do in-fact look for students to play for them, when trying to get a better team, the coachs will give scholarships to their schools to try and attract the players to go there.
I believe that the NCAA should have a higher standard. I think that students should have a higher average to play alone. Simply passing a class should not be good enough for for them to be able to play a sport. In my opinion each student athlete should have higher requirements. They obviously have less time to do their school work, so they need to understand the material faster. With this, each student athlete should have a tutor and work together with their team members to help everyone achieve. With team tutoring, students would exell even more, they would learn more then just the students would be teaching. With students helping one another, it would bring the team closer, and give each student the ability to help one another.
If a student is going to play that sport as a profession, it is imporant that they also have a good education to support them if anything is to happen to them. A person is unable to play sports for their entire life, because of that, they need to have an education to fall back and support themselves. If anything the NCAA should make their restrictions even strictor and make sure that these athletes should have a good education behind them. With this education behind them, it would allow that person to do something after their athethic career.
